As Company Director and Founder of Project Gold Psychology, Louise has a doctoral degree in Applied Educational Psychology (DAppEdPsy). She holds a MSc degree in Psychology.
As a Health and Care Professions (HCPC) registered practitioner psychologist, Louise has worked within local authorities as a maingrade Educational Psychologist (EP) and Senior Educational Psychologist (SEP).

Challenges to Advancement
Leadership and Management Experience
In her local authority capacity, Louise built her supervisory and line-management experience. She started with supervising an assistant EP to Louise becoming a member of a Senior Leadership Team, SLT) line-managing a team of EPs and Trainee EPs (TEPs).
Gradually as a psychologist, Louise started to notice that a pattern appeared to be unfolding with Louise being overlooked for promoted posts and training opportunities. Prior to becoming a Senior Educational Psychologist, when Louise sought to apply for an in-house senior leadership scheme, one former boss told Louise “It is not for people like you” (direct quote!) and refused to endorse her application.

Navigating Personal Adversity
In a team meeting, another former boss questioned the origins of Louise and Louise’s family, asserting “Oh, I thought they (Louise’s family) might be fleeing somewhere!” (another direct quote!) Louise cannot be certain if the nature of these remarks had been racially motivated. Louise is non-white in appearance of mixed ethnicity.
All Louise can say, is that these observations made her feel uncomfortable, less-than and upset. In the background to her workplace challenges, Louise had been undergoing a gruelling IVF process in her personal life.

Despite these obstacles, Louise maintained her supervisory and line-management responsibilities. Louise discovered that she has a passion for supporting others to identify their career and personal life goals. She learned that she is inspired to create a safe space where individuals can talk openly about the issues that affect them and matter to them. In her conversations with others, she started to appreciate how much the challenges individuals encounter in the workplace intersect with other life factors.

Facilitating Deep Dialogue
From Educational Psychology to Adult-Focused Purpose
The individuals Louise worked with seemed comfortable talking to her about subjects relating to their personal lives, sometimes touching on deep topics such as their children, romantic relationships and health. Louise found that her psychological skills coupled with her innate empathy spurred her to lead on restorative, judgement-free conversations with a focus on joint-problem solving.
Louise knew that she must shift her focus from education (children as the primary client) to adults. It became apparent to Louise that her supervisory, leadership and coaching responsibilities is the arena that gives her the most heartfelt purpose. With the subtle ‘othering’ she had been experiencing, coupled with the stresses of a high responsibility leadership role, Louise knew she must make a big life change.

The Genesis of Project Gold Psychology
It began to dawn on Louise that to achieve her aspirations, Louise needed to build up a venture of her own. A project that only she has the power to control. A project that allows Louise to shape her own destiny doing what matters to her most, uniting with others to minimise feelings of stress, alienation and uncertainty in relation to work and home life.
